El trabajo muestra la utilidad de los conceptos de lengua y cultura para el conocimiento y valoración de la lengua caboverdiana, el criollo, que comparte su espacio con la lengua portuguesa, instituida para los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje, desde el primer grado hasta el universitario. Esta situación crea dificultades académicas, por una política lingüística que no ha incorporado la L1 a los procesos de escolarización de los caboverdianos; por tanto, no protege la conservación y perdurabilidad de este medio de comunicación y no contribuye al reforzamiento de su identidad y sentido de pertenencia. Esta política propicia una situación lingüística que contradice la preservación y perfeccionamiento de la lengua materna de la República de Cabo Verde.

ABSTRACT

This paper shows the proficiency the concepts of language and culture have for the knowledge and appreciation of Cape Verdean Creole. The Creole shares its space with the Portuguese language, which is the language of instruction and government in Cape Verde. This situation creates academic difficulties, since the linguistic policy have not incorporated L1 within Cape Verdeans education processes. Therefore, this linguistic policy does not protect the conservation and perdurability of Creole and it does not contribute to the enforcement of the identity and sense of belonging of such means of communication. Furthermore, it violates the right every child of learning and be educated in his or her mother tongue. The policy also contributes to a linguistic situation that contradicts the preservation and improvement of the Republic of Cape Verde mother tongue.
